Kayaking on the Dora Canal Oct. 5, 2016

We had the Old Elfin River aka Dora Canal all to ourselves this morning and what a fantastic place to paddle. A real Florida swamp with giant Cypress Trees and Spanish Moss swaying in the breeze. The Anhingas were out drying their wings, Great Blue, Little Blue and Green Herons were feeding along the river's edge as were the Snowy Egrets. The Apple Snail Eggs are perfectly glued to the trunks of the trees and the Limpkin was preening getting ready for his next Apple Snail meal. It's the cycle of life and we were happy to see future meals being established for future generations. These are both indicator species of a clean environment; you can't have one without the other. The Ospreys were out fishing with Bald Eagles not far away and it was a beautiful day to be on the water!
