April 23, 2015 was a great day to be kayaking on the river!

We took John and Theresa from the UK on the St Johns River today and what a beautiful day it was! As we paddled up Blue Springs Run the dark color of the St Johns River quickly faded into the crystal clear waters of the springs. We got to see several Longnose Gar, Silver Mullet, Tilapia, Catfish and what we lovingly call Pan Fish. We even had a lone Manatee make a pass on us. Back out on the big river 2 Bald Eagles looked down on us from their perch high in the Oak Tree and we got to see 2 big Gators and a few smaller ones out sunning on the shoreline. The Great and Little Blue Herons, White Ibis, Great Egrets and several Turtles were playing in the water too. In Snake Creek we saw the resident Barred Owl who has now raised young there this season. He just sat on the swamp floor and watched us as we watched him. The new spring flowers are starting to pop and today was one of those awesome days with lots of action on the river.
